The Worcester Police Department began the week by investigating a hit and run collision Sunday night. The collision occurred on Perkins Street, just west of the downtown area. Police officers were dispatched to the scene at around 9:00 pm in reference to the accident involving two motor vehicles. When they arrived, however, they were able to locate only one of the vehicles. As it turns out, the other driver decided to flee from the accident scene before police could arrive.
After taking statements and measurements from the scene of the crash, officers classified the incident as a hit and run. Unfortunately, there were also injuries associated with this hit and run accident. There is at least no indication that the injuries sustained were severe enough to be life-threatening. Although there is no word on charges, it is expected that the driver who left the scene will eventually face charges related to leaving the scene of an accident. At this time, the driver has not been apprehended by police. The wreck investigation remains ongoing.
