Billerica Car Accident, Serious Injuries

A couple of individuals were severely injured when they crashed head-on into each other. The accident happened near Hopkins and Dorcester Streets tonight.

One of them was not conscious and the other was trapped in the vehicle. Numerous emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the intersection.

The incident took place at almost 7 p.m. on the border of Billerica.

Hopkins Street was reopened to vehicles at 8 p.m..

Billerica streets that were affected include Alexander Road at Cook Street which was shut down.

Worcester Judges Orders Peter J. Rizzo to Pay Restitution for Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Thirty year old Peter J. Rizzo was in Worcester Superior Court today facing charges of leaving an accident scene where there was property damage.

He was also charged with wrong way driving. The judge allowed him to complete the Brain at Risk Program, which must be completed within the year.

However, Mr. Rizzo must still pay restitution to the injured victim in the amount of $2,300 plus court fees.

Brockton Gas Station Multi-Vehicle Crash Results in Death (Update)

Nearly 24 hours after a multi-vehicle crash at the Gas Depot in Brockton, a female victim of the crash was declared dead today.

Reports from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office indicate that victim as in her 50s and had refused treatment at the scene of the accident on Thursday. The female eventually arrive at the Brockton Hospital where she was then transferred to Beth Israel Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

On Thursday, around 10 a.m., law enforcement were dispatched to the gas station at Main Street and Perkins Street. There, they discovered that a GMC Yukon collided into the female victim’s vehicle, before crashing into the gas station – slamming into a pole in the process. The GMC Yukon was stopped by another vehicle at the gas station.

The identities of the people involved have not been released.

Springfield Fire Causes Major Vehicle Damage

Firefighters in Springfield squelched a truck blaze on Switzer Avenue this afternoon. The fire disintegrated the truck engine, the trailer and two vehicles that strapped on the trailer, according to a fire official.

Dennis Leger, assistant of Fire Commissioner Bernard J. Calvi reported that the incident happened prior to 3 p.m. on 170 Switzer Street.

Firefighters came on scene to find the trailer already on fire.

Arson and Bomb Squads are figuring out the cause of the fire.

This Common Behavior Increases Your Risk of A Car Accident According to Research

It is common knowledge that driving is most dangerous when driving on an unknown route.

The risk in that scenario increases when the driver is following another driver to a final destination. It is the worry of losing the car in front of you that distracts the driver.

Doing everything possible to remain in the line of sight of the driver is what contributes to the risk of accident.

Summer is Near, and So Are These Seasonal Driving Risks

Information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that some of the most dangerous months of the year to be driving are July and August.

As summer approaches, it is important to learn about what makes summer driving so dangerous.

Some cities in Massachusetts will report an increase in drivers during the summer months because of tourists.

More people on the road means more car accident deaths and injuries during the summer.

Keeping Safe on the Road As A Bicyclist

Riding a bicycle is typically a very safe activity. Especially now that there are better pieces of safety equipment available, and increased motorist awareness of the dangers of sharing the road.

Bicyclists also have their own set of laws to which they must abide like motorists. Bicyclists have the duty, too, of operating their bike on the road in such a way as to prevent the risks inherent in sharing the road with motorists. The prevalence of bike lanes have helped in decreasing injuries and fatalities.

There is still more that can be done to keep us all safe on the roadways when we share the road.

Increased Car Accidents on 420 due to Drivers Under the Influence

Due to a rise in deadly car accidents on April 20th around 4:20 p.m., a sort of holiday for marijuana enthusiasts, Massachusetts law enforcement asks drivers to exercise caution on today.

Now that recreational marijuana is legal in Massachusetts, marijuana dispensaries are set to open in the next few months across the state.

However, law enforcement have been against the legalization since 2016 and continue to alert drivers that operating a motor vehicle while under the influence is still illegal. It is also incredibly dangerous. The Governor’s office released a statement advising the public of the following:

“Driver responsibility plays a huge role in keeping our roads safe – whether we’re talking about marijuana or alcohol – and we want to remind drivers not to take the wheel if they are impaired in any way.”

Drowsy Driving is Impaired Driving

Hundreds of accidents occur annually due to driver’s falling asleep at the wheel. Drowsy driving causes severe impacts. Truck drivers are more likely to be involved accident due to lack of sleep because of the inherent nature of the job.

The only way to be the most alert as a driver is to get sufficient sleep. Drowsy driving is more common than you think. Drivers across the country drive after a late night at work, or staying out all night for a party. Many drivers have experienced the effects of drowsy driving when they find they have nodded off for a split second. They jump to alertness when other driver’s honk their horns or they sense the car veering off-road.

Truck drivers who have to drive for long periods of time have a far more increased risk of an accident that non-commercial drivers. When one truck driver is involved in an accident due to impaired driving, it does not just affect one other non-commercial driver but possibly half of a dozen due to the size of the truck.
