Worcester Police Investigate Hit and Run

A hit and run took place in Worcester on Saturday.  The incident occurred in the 200 block of Perry Avenue.  Worcester Police received a call at approximately 12 noon regarding a hit and run accident at this location.  Police responded quickly to the call and, upon arrival, discovered that the accident involved injuries to the person remaining at the scene.

The other driver fled shortly after the accident and has yet to be located.  Police canvassed the area but were unsuccessful in their search.  It appears at this time that, fortunately, there were no life-threatening injuries suffered in this hit and run crash.  The police investigation is ongoing at this time.  The identity of the drivers has not been revealed and there is no word on the cause of the accident.

Hit and Run Attorneys

A hit-and-run accident can be a devastating event.  Drivers who are involved in accidents and then leave the scene face a variety of legal troubles in the form of both civil and criminal penalities. Civilly, the injured victim may recover from the driver’s insurance company or personally from the driver themselves.  Criminal liability includes fines, probation and even jail time for especially egregious incidents.

It can be difficult to understand why a driver would leave the scene of an accident. This action is iin complete disregard for the rights and safety of others.  Unfortunately, not all of these perpetrators are apprehended by police and brought to justice.  In those cases, a good personal injury attorney can come into play and locate other avenues of recovery for you.

Automobile insurance is mandatory in Massachusetts.  Unfortunately, this does not mean that the other driver either has insurance or that their insurance coverage is available to receive in the event of a crash. Many people are unaware that they carry uninsured motorist coverage as a standard part of their automobile insurance policy.  Uninsured motorist coverage can apply when you are involved in an crash with a driver that does not carry insurance or, in the case of a hit and run, the other driver cannot be found.  In these instances, your policy should take responsibility for the crash and pay you for any damages you sustained, including lost wages and out of pocket medical expenses.

Uninsured motorist issues are extremely complex and should never be handled without the aid and advice of an experienced personal injury lawyer.
